[edit]- A fourth USS Florida was present at the Battle of Tayacoba during the Spanish-American War in 1898.
I have serious doubts about this Florida being a USN warship. Yes the records indicate that there was a transport Florida (and Fanita) escorted by the USS Peoria for this engagement. This is further substantiated in that a ship (Florida) was leased by the US Army from the period 2 May thru 9 Sept, 1898. The USS Peoria left Key West on 25 Jun with the transports and returned them early July. 64.136.27.225 20:01, 6 October 2005 (UTC)
